A follow up to the 2013 book Gridlock: Why Global Cooperation Is Failing when We Need It Most (Polity 2013), this workshop invites experts from a range of issue areas to discuss general patterns in multilateral blockages, as well as pathways beyond them. While many global institutions are stalled by cross-cutting trends such as growing multipolarity, institutional inertia, growing complexity, and fragmentation, we also observe innovations and adapatations to these phenomena in world politics. The workshop aims to identify systematic pathways out of gridlock in global governance.

The workshop is convened by Dr. Thomas Hale, Associate Professor, Blavatnik School, and Dr. David Held, Master, University College, Durham.

Attendance by invitation only.
