Dr Hazel Sophia Gray, Research Associate

Hazel Sophia Gray is a Lecturer in African Development at the Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh. Dr Gray holds a PhD and MSc from SOAS, University of London, and a degree in politics, philosophy and economics from the University of Oxford.

She worked for three years as an economist at the Ministry of Finance in Tanzania and has undertaken consultancy for a number of national and international development agencies on issues of governance, aid, financing of HIV/AIDs responses in developing countries, and public financial management.

Her research interests concern the political economy of development, in particular, industrial policy and economic development in Africa and the comparative legacies of socialism in Tanzania and Vietnam for economic transition under liberalization.
