GEG’s Carolyn Deere Birkbeck has been appointed to the University of Olso-Lancet Independent Panel on Global Governance for Health. In 2015 the Panel will examine the implications of trade and investment treaties, agreements and negotiation processes for health, and the social determinants of health. The Panel is inviting submissions of evidence on this topic from all interested parties by April 30th.

The creation of the Panel followed the recommendations of The Lancet-University of Oslo Commission on Global Governance for Health, which reported in February 2014. The panel aims to provide evidence, based on high quality, independent research and analysis, on how current global governance arrangements across different policy sectors cause (or fail to resolve) inequitable health outcomes. The topic selected for 2015 is international trade and public health. The findings of the Panel will be published in the Lancet. Members of the Panel are independent experts within the areas of global governance, trade, law and development.
