One of the most important energy treaties in the South American region, the Itaipu Treaty on hydropower, will be renegotiated over the coming coming years.

Global Leaders Fellow Maria A. Gwynn recently gave a presentation on this topic with the title ‘The International Politics of Renewable Energy: Paraguay and the Itaipu Treaty’. It was hosted by the Oxford Latin American Centre at the University of Oxford. She also spoke on the same topic to the LLM students at the Law Faculty of Keele University. Her research is especially concerned with those aspects of the renegotiation that can lead to fostering sustainable development.
